What You Don't Eat WILL Kill You!
TRUE: "You are what you eat."
MORE TRUE: "You are what you absorb."
MOST TRUE: "It's not just WHAT you eat that kills you, it's what you DON’T eat. The key to health is giving your body all the 90 essential nutrients.” ~Dr. Joel Wallach
Food is important! After all, we were created to eat food, and one of the first commands given by G-d was to do just that:
“You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.” ~Breishit (Genesis) 2:16-17
Just as the balance between life and death for the first man and woman was tied to the SOURCE of their food, so too is our existence, although in a very different sense. According to the 1992 Rio Earth Summit Report on mineral depletion, average mineral levels in agricultural soils fell worldwide over the previous 100 years by 55% to 85%, depending on the region.
"Apparently we can no longer think of foods as having a fixed value: for such value varies with the soil type."(1)
I don’t think that we are fully aware of the situation since foods LOOK mostly the same as they did 100 years ago. From the standpoint of appearance, an orange looks basically the same as it did when our grandparents were young. But looks can be deceiving! The nutritional content of today’s oranges is much lower than what Grandma enjoyed:
“Both the 1936 U.S. Senate Document 264 and the 1992 Rio Earth Summit Report on mineral depletion graphically point out that our Earth’s soils are anemic.” (2)
According to several sources referring to the 1992 Rio Earth Summit Report, mineral content in fruits and vegetables dropped 16-76% between 1940 and 1991. (3),(4),(5) And at the same time that the nutrient content of our foods has been plummeting due to the use of chemical fertilizers, lack of crop rotation, neglect of sabbatical years of rest for farmland, disuse of animal and green manures, etc., disease has been on the rise in America. In fact, there is a direct correlation between mineral-depleted soils and disease:
“Sick soils make for sick plants, and sick plants when consumed make for sick animals and people.” (6)
The chart below depicts the relationship between sick soils and sick people. Animals, people, and plants do not make minerals; we are dependent on the soils where our food is grown to contribute to the necessary minerals that keep us healthy. Healthy plants require only 6-15 nutrients while humans require 60 essential minerals for optimal health. Without these vital nutrients, disease is manifest in the following ways:
Mineral Deficiency |
Disease/ Congenital Birth Defect |
Vitamin E + Selenium |
Steatitis, muscular dystrophy |
Selenium |
Cardiomyopathy, Keshan Disease |
Selenium + Copper + EFAs |
Cystic fibrosis, fibromyalgia |
Copper |
Aneurysms, cerebral palsy, liver cirrhosis, hemorrhoids, varicose veins |
Calcium + Magnesium |
Osteoporosis, osteoarthritis |
Chromium + Vanadium |
Diabetes |
Magnesium |
Atheriosclerosis |
Folic Acid or Zinc |
Spina bifida |
Vitamin A or Zinc |
Cleft palate, ventricular septal heart defect |

Dr. Joel Wallach was able to demonstrate in zoo animals that these diseases could be induced by withholding specific nutrients, then easily reversed by replenishing those same nutrients. In fact, he says that:
“Every animal and every human who dies of natural causes dies of a nutritional deficiency disease.” (7)
You may have never heard of Dr. Wallach before which may cause you to doubt the validity of his statement; however, I am sure that you have heard of Dr. Linus Pauling, recipient of two Nobel Prizes, who asserted:
“You can trace every sickness, every disease and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.”
So, as you can see, the leading cause of natural death is nutrient deficiency! This is utterly mind-blowing! Disease names and managing their symptoms are the focus of death in allopathic medicine, and holistic circles emphasize the side effects of reductionist thinking which lead to the number one cause of death in America-- iatrogenesis-- but but few on either side of the fence distill the cause of death down to the real core issue: nutrient deficiency!
As a Nutritional Consultant, I would never tell anyone that diet doesn’t matter, BUT I will say that even the best diet in the world will not give you the nutrients that you need to prevent disease because:
“The foundation of human health is the quality of the food we eat, which relies ultimately on the vitality of the soil on which it is raised.” ~Source Unknown
What you DON'T eat WILL kill you! Our soils are depleted! We cannot rely on the vitality of the soil anymore, so we MUST supplement in order get the nutrients we need in order to prevent disease and secure wellness and longevity. Supplementation with quality supplements that are easily absorbed and properly assimilated provides these benefits:
- Diminished cravings-- Munchies” in humans are the equivalent to pica and cribbing in animals, which are signs of mineral deficiencies.
- Weight loss-- adequate nutrient intake means increased satiety. Quality supplementation provides nutrients without added calories.
- Improved immune function-- proper nutrition provides the body with the tools to fight illness and disease.
- Increased energy & vitality-- balanced vitamins and minerals provide the fuel to our bodies on a cellular level, leading to improved stamina and function of every bodily system.
- Sharpened mental acuity-- nutrients provide fuel for the brain to increase concentration and memory.
- Emotional stability-- depression, anxiety, emotional disorders, and the ability to deal with stress are often rooted in nutrient deficiencies.
